Spring Is In the Air! (and so are allergens.)
Spring signals the biggest allergy season of the year. The biggest culprit of your itchy eyes and constant sneezing is none other than pollen. These tiny particles are released into the air by various plants and make there way in and onto the body. With peaks in the morning, pollen count usually drops gradually throughout the day.
The most common allergy symptoms include:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itchy, watery, puffy eyes
- Coughing and/or difficulty breathing
The severity of allergies can range from person to person. Knowing how to cope through simple home remedies could help ease your woes and get you through the season!
Avoid Allergens
Be conscious of the environments that you find yourself in. Avoid partaking in any outdoor activities, especially in mornings when pollen count is at its highest. Try to stay indoors on windy days.
Stay Clean
Once you're back home after spending some time outside, make sure to shower and change into a fresh set of clothes as pollen can adhere to your hair and clothing.
Limit Airflow
Keep windows and doors closed around the house to prevent any pollen and other allergens from making its way indoors.
Take Medication
Over-the-counter allergy medication, decongestants, nasal spray, and eye drops to name a few. A saline sinus rinse can also be a viable remedy if nasal symptoms get too overwhelming.
